The flat felt bigger than usual tonight. I was barefoot on the sofa in my softest onesie, legs tucked under me, the faint sweet cloud from my vape drifting up toward the ceiling while some ridiculous reality show murmured away in the background. The girls on screen were arguing over nothing and I should have been laughing at them the way I always do, but the sound just washed over me without landing. Outside the window the Hackney evening had gone quiet, the kind of soft blue-grey light that makes everything feel a little slower and a little heavier.

It started as a small ache, nothing dramatic, just a sudden awareness of the empty cushion beside me. Then it sharpened. I found myself thinking about the sort of man I still keep hoping for, the tall one with dark hair and steady hands who would walk through the door without needing an invitation. In my mind he would not ask questions. He would simply pull me up from the sofa, kiss me until my thoughts scattered, and take me apart with that perfect mix of rough energy and careful attention I crave so deeply. The fantasy arrived fully formed, warm and insistent, and my body answered before I could push it away.

I could almost feel the weight of him, the way he would press me back into the cushions and let his mouth travel slowly down my throat. The imagined scrape of stubble against soft skin sent a genuine shiver through me, and I pressed my thighs together without meaning to. Heat gathered low and steady, a gentle pulse that made the quiet of the room feel suddenly intimate. I pictured his hands, firm and sure, guiding me exactly where he wanted, holding me open while he took his time. The thought of being thrown about a little, claimed with that delicious intensity, then gathered close afterward for long quiet minutes of nothing but warmth and slow breathing, made my chest tighten with something that was equal parts longing and sweetness.

My fingers traced idle patterns along my own collarbone as the feeling deepened. Every small movement of fabric against skin became more noticeable. The cool air from the open window brushed the places that felt flushed. I closed my eyes and let the fantasy continue, imagining the low sound of his voice against my ear, the careful way he would watch my face for every reaction, the patient build that would leave me trembling and soft and completely undone. It was never just the physical part that pulled at me. It was the idea of being known so thoroughly that the roughness felt safe, and the tenderness that followed felt like coming home.

When the wave of want finally eased I stayed very still, breathing carefully, the reality show still flickering unnoticed. The loneliness had not disappeared, but it had changed shape. It felt almost gentle now, wrapped around the hope I refuse to let go of. Somewhere out there is the man who will walk in on an evening exactly like this, see me barefoot and quiet, and understand exactly what I need. He will give me the storm and the calm in the same night, and I will not have to explain a single thing.

I finished the last of the vape, turned the volume up a fraction, and smiled at the empty space beside me. The ache was still there, soft and familiar, but so was the quiet certainty that the right evening with the right person is still waiting. Until then I can hold the feeling close, let it warm me from the inside, and keep the door unlocked in every way that matters.
